Client Interview // Toledo, Ohio Boudoir Photographer

Over the course of last year, I was able to work with so many wonderful women. Each with their own reason for doing a boudoir session, it was quite honestly, the most creatively inspiring year I've had with my business. Coming into 2017 I had such high expectations. I was ready to do more, create more, BE more. In many ways, January did not disappoint. I had some of the best clients in January and I couldn't be more pumped that some of them are choosing to let me share their images with you. Butttt I'm also keeping it real in that I didn't hit my goal number of sessions for January and I didn't eat as many donuts as I wanted to. So yeah. Here's to hustlin' in February and March!

That said, sweet sweet Kaylee was first up for 2017 and to say she killed her session is such an understatement. What started as a bucket list goal/gift for a partner, turned into an empowerment session.

Kaylee I'm so incredibly proud of you. There is NOTHING you can't do when you set your mind to it. These images tell the story of a brave, strong and FIERCE woman. Embrace that. You are incredible. You are in the LNS Girl Gang.

Imma let Kaylee tell you all about her session because girlfrannnd is ready to share her words and images from her boudoir shoot. You're welcome.

State Tested Nurses Aide

What made you take the leap of faith and do a boudoir session?
It is one of the things that I have on my "bucket list". I have always had it in the back of my mind that I wanted to do a boudoir session, and finally said screw it!

Did you have any obstacles or fears about the session?
I did have fears before the shoot, I kept thinking I should just cancel, I won't look good like you are supposed to.

Did I provide enough pre-session info?
You provided SOOOO much information and I was so grateful! From where great places to shop are all the way down to what to expect!

Oh My Lantana! I absolutely had the time of my life. I never knew a session could be so fun! I didn't want to stop. I wish I could do this at least once a month!

Was the session different than you expected?
It was so much better than what I had expected! I was kind of scared because I didn't know what to expect. You and Amanda made me feel beautiful and kept me laughing!

Toledo-Ohio-Boudoir-Photographer-Lindsay-NIcole-Studio

There are so many! From picking out my outfits to hearing you and Amanda's response for when they were actually on!

If you are scared, don't be. You have absolutely NOTHING to be worried about.

Did anything change regarding the way you see yourself after the session?
I feel more confident and comfortable with myself.

2016 // Year In Review

Whoa. Did we really just smash into 2017? I honestly can't believe 2016 is....over. I'm not one for New Years resolutions really but I did set some big goals for myself last year and I am pretty pumped to say I met most of them. Some of the things I did weren't even on my list because I never thought I could accomplish them. CRAY-ZAY. This is a post to say, I'm so freaking excited about how my business has grown and all the things that took place over the last 365(ish) days.

Let's start with December 2015. (Yes I know that was more than a year ago but bear with me.)

In December 2015 I started a private Facebook group for all my lady friends that I thought would be interested in doing a boudoir shoot. I think I invited maybe 50 girls and asked them to add their friends. I put out a model call and asked for volunteers to be my "real woman" models. I shot 4 babes in December and the rest is really history.

2016 is the year I went for it. I found my passion and I threw myself at it 110%. I don't know when it happened, but I started to view myself as a business owner and not a "hobby photographer". I went on to have over 35 boudoir sessions last year. It freaking BLEW MY MIND.

I also traveled last year. FOR PHOTOGRAPHY. Ha - yah - it's true. What is this LIFE?! In January I flew to Amarillo, TX to second shoot a wedding with the incredible Bahareh Ritter. It was such a joy to second shoot and learn from her.  She had the sweetest clients and friends and I'm not surprised she and her husband left our corner of Ohio and returned to Amarillo at the end of last year. :(

In July I traveled to Vail, Colorado for the Oh Sh!t Workshop with my ultimate photographer lady crush, Andria Lindquist. We stayed in a bomb ass house, drank lots of wine, told stories, had impromptu photo shoots, ate the BEST vegan food I've ever had, got mini makeovers by my girl Gaylin and had our own photo shoot with Andria. #dead. Dreams do come true.

I wrote a more detailed blog post about this here and here but the below photos basically sum it up.

Lastly, I shot my first destination wedding in October in Puerto Rico. That trip was made even more amazing by the fact that my clients became friends wayyyy before the wedding so it turned into a mini vacation. You can read more about that trip of a lifetime here but one of my favorite images from the wedding (actually one of my favorite images I've EVER taken to date) is below.

Speaking of weddings, I shot 4 total last year which was a comfortable number considering the year before I shot 8 and I was considering not shooting ANY this year. Super glad I threw that idea out the window. :) I shot a gorgeous wedding (thanks to April at Your Perfect Day) in January.

I also had the honor of shooting my first same-sex wedding in July (also made beautiful by April at Your Perfect Day). Fiona and Melissa had been together for SIXTEEN years. It was an emotional day for them AND everyone else who was there to celebrate.

I also got to work with this freaking adorable couple in August. One of the hottest days of the year, complete with an Ohio summer thunderstorm didn't phase them. When I say this couple was laid back and so much fun to work with, I'm not doing them enough justice. Plus, we made magic happen once the clouds parted.

One of the highlights of my year though was scheduling a session for my mom, aunt and 3 cousins. We made it a total girls day with hair by my girl Christah and makeup by the uber talented Beauty by Billie Jo. Even though I was completely exhausted after doing 5 shoots, it was one of the best days I can remember. I got to take some images of my mom that I think are simply stunning. This is the stuff that makes my heart happy. <3

I took December off to prepare for 2017. I had such high aspirations to get organized, order new samples, ramp up my marketing, etc. etc. But the truth is, I love where I am, I love the clients I work with. And when I look back at 2016...man, it was a good year.

I've got some monster goals from 2017 and I'm so ready to take this year on. I'm 75% finished with my studio office makeover and I hired a cleaning service. (!!!) Let's do this. Who's with me?!

I love when everything for a boudoir session just goes right. This pretty lady was one of my FAVORITE sessions this year. Simple. Captivating. Unafraid. Mrs. P. owned her session and the images show it.

Without further adieu, let's get to the interview.

How old are you?
31

What do you do for a living?
Project Manager at a marketing agency.

Did you have any obstacles or fears about the session?
If I had any fear, it was really just being unsure as to if I had prepared enough - did I pick out the right outfits, do my make up right, etc. If I didn't know you and hadn't been following your work I might have been nervous, but your excitement and enthusiasm for these shoots comes through in your social media presence so I knew I was in good hands :)

Did you enjoy your session?
I LOVED my session. I definitely underestimated how much fun I would have and how excited I would be to get my images.

How did you feel when you saw your images?
I couldn't believe how good I looked! Your editing style is amazing and has such a good feel for this type of photography. I honestly didn't expect that I would be so excited to see my photos, but I couldn't wait for the reveal.

Would you ever do another session?
For sure. I wish I could do this every weekend :)

Will you tell your friends about your session?
Yes!

Do you have any advice for women interested in booking a boudoir session?
Go for it and be all in. Don't worry about feeling or looking awkward. If you let yourself be fully in the moment and let go of your inhibitions, you'll be amazed at the photos that result. Clear your mind of all your other distractions and just be present; let yourself enjoy the time in front of the camera. And above all, don't take yourself too seriously!

Did you enjoy working with me and my team? (Be honest!)
So much so. To echo my comment from above, your enthusiasm made the entire session. You strike the perfect mix of professionalism but also keep it really casual and personable.

Matt + Courtney Wed // Destination Wedding Photographer

A lot of photographers brag that their clients become their friends. And I'll admit that I may have been guilty of that a few times. But when it's true. It's freaking true. Matt + Courtney went from acquaintances > clients > true friends. I'd like to think I had them at hello but I think the wine and fresh made cookies had something to do with it. Either way, when they officially asked me photograph their wedding in Puerto Rico, it came with an invitation to their wedding as a guest. Cue the happy tears.

There were so many fantastic moments during the wedding week. Matt + Courtney's friends and family were some of the nicest people I've ever met. As a wedding photographer, I am always plagued with the "jr-high-will-they-like-me-???" fears before a wedding. It's so hard to step into someone's inner circle and be accepted, welcomed and liked....but truly, I was and it made all the difference in their wedding images.

Matt and Courtney were married at Villa Montana in Isabella, Puerto Rico. Obviously, I was excited for my first destination wedding. I knew it was going to be on a beach and there would be palm trees and all the things a destination wedding entails, but honestly, I could not have imagined how beautiful this little island resort would be and how much amazing detail they would put in to make Matt + Courtney's wedding feel like so much more than a beach wedding. Many times with destination weddings it's cookie-cutter, out of the box decor and pretty standard food/drinks. That was so not the case here and I cannot say enough good things about the design/planning team at Villa Montana. This was a one-of-a-kind day, for two people who couldn't have deserved it more.

I could go on and on about this resort and their staff and all the things they did to make this day perfect but I'll let the images speak for themselves. This is a photo heavy post so *ahem* let's do this.

Details:
Wedding Location: Villa Montana, Puerto Rico
Flowers, Decor, Catering, Cake and DJ all provided by the talented staff at Villa Montana. I cannot recommend them enough if you are considering a destination wedding! (also, I freaking love to travel. I'mma leave that right there.)
Dress: Essence of Australia / Belle Amour Bridal
